The right equipment starts with your routine. Think about where you need support, how much space you have, and who will help you use or transport it.
A clinician, physical therapist, or occupational therapist can help with equipment selection, fit, and safe use. What would make your day easier?
Start with the task you want help with.
Then compare fit, features, and support.
Walkers & rollators
A standard walker and a wheeled rollator provide different kinds of support. Many rollators include a seat for rest breaks; the right choice depends on your balance, strength, and ability to use the brakes.
- Handle height, overall width, and weight capacity.
- Brake operation, folded size, and lifting weight.
- Whether your clinician recommends a walker or rollator.

Wheelchairs & transport chairs
A transport chair is generally pushed by a caregiver. A manual wheelchair with large rear wheels may allow the user to propel themselves. Consider both the person using it and the person helping.
- Seat width, weight capacity, and footrest fit.
- Doorway clearance and the chair’s folded dimensions.
- Caregiver availability and support needed for transfers.

Mobility scooters
For someone who can use one safely, a scooter may make longer outings more manageable. Look beyond battery range: storage, turning space, transfers, and the weight of the heaviest piece all matter.
- Turning radius, doorway fit, and charging access.
- Total weight and the heaviest part when disassembled.
- Surface and slope limits, service, and repair options.

Bathroom safety
Shower chairs, transfer benches, and toilet supports address different daily tasks. Match the equipment to your bathroom and how you move through it; a chair alone does not solve every transfer challenge.
- Tub or shower dimensions and the product’s full footprint.
- Seat height, weight capacity, and assembly instructions.
- Whether you need a transfer bench or another person’s help.

Make room once.
In a New York apartment, a few inches can make a big difference.
Measure the actual clear opening, then compare it with the equipment’s overall width.
Consider the hallway, elevator entrance, and space needed to turn inside.
Check folded size and who will lift it into a car or carry it up steps.
Ask whether delivery includes stairs, assembly, or placement inside your apartment.
Before you place an order
1. Confirm the fit
Use the exact model’s current measurements and instructions. Photos show examples, and specifications vary by model. Get professional help if you are unsure what support you need.
2. Read the return terms
Check the return window, return shipping costs, possible fees, and whether an assembled or used item can be returned. Save the packaging until you know the fit is right.
3. Ask about service
Confirm what the warranty covers, who handles repairs, and whether parts are available. For powered equipment, ask about the battery, charger, and service in your area.
A little more clarity
Is a rollator seat the same as a transport chair?
No. Do not push someone while they sit on a standard rollator. Only a model specifically designed for transport-chair use should be used that way, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Who handles an order made through these links?
Vive Health is the seller and handles checkout, shipping, returns, warranties, and product support. Thriftway earns a commission on qualifying purchases through these links. These are not orders fulfilled by Thriftway.
Can a pharmacist help if a medication makes me dizzy?
Tell your pharmacist and prescriber about dizziness or unsteadiness. Some medications can affect balance. Do not stop or change a prescription on your own. Equipment selection and fitting may also need a clinician, physical therapist, or occupational therapist.
